Kean University's STEM Building, as it is called, serves as the home for the NJ Center for Science, Technology, and Mathematics. This steel-framed structure stands six stories tall and encompasses 105,000 square feet of classrooms, laboratories, conference rooms, and restaurant space. The building's asymmetric shape and numerous diagonal braces called for the use of very intricate connection details.
One key aspect of this project was the fabrication of the braced frame featured in these photos. This frame was completely shop-assembled and delivered in one piece weighing almost 30,000 pounds.
